Parking Ettiquette

It doesn't really bother me that there is not enough parking in Dubai. The same is true of any city anywhere in the world. I'm quite happy to drive around a bit and engage in a bit of competetive parking in Mall of the Emirates from time to time. What bothers me is people who don't respect the ettiquette of competing for parking spaces.

Let me put it simply: Where do people get the idea that it is okay to drive past a space where a car is leaving, realise their mistake, put their indicator on and try and reverse back to the space when there are 3 cars behind them? Tough luck buddy. You missed it. Now drive on.

Yesterday I encountered exactly this situtation as I was getting into my car to leave the space. It turned into a case of watching for 5 minutes (I was ready to leave with reverse lights on) as the naughty reverser and a guy behind him tussled for postition (eventually ending up almost bumper to bumper). In the end the guy behind relented as the reverser was clearly not going to give up.

Had the other guy won I would have reversed straight away and set off on my way home. As it turned out I decided to get out of the car and go back to the shops.
